Description
A much needed advanced guide for practitioners of acupuncture based on the traditional Chinese theories of medicine. It explains the diagnostic techniques to be employed in the practice of traditional acupuncture. A major part of the book is the Point Physiology section consisting of a compendium of acupuncture points showing a list of important information to consider when selecting the appropriate point. This is followed by an Indication Cross Reference section which is designed, in conjunction with the Point Physiology section, to prompt thought on point selection, and not as a formula for treatment in symptomatic acupuncture. The author's impression is that a lot of Western practitioners of acupuncture use mostly 'symptomatic' acupuncture, and that this may be due to a lack of understanding of adequate diagnostic techniques. Whilst this symptomatic approach is an important facet of acupuncture he feels that is should not form the basis of treatment but rather be a technique to 'fall back' on in those situations when no other treatment can be devised from the holistic approach. - from Amzon
